Chatham Climate Action Network
Chatham CAN is a volunteer-led group working to inspire and mobilize our community to reduce carbon pollution and build resilience to protect our town.
We are neighbors from all walks of life: working people and retirees, teachers and students, scientists and gardeners, faith community members, seasoned advocates and brand-new volunteers. What unites us is a shared commitment to protecting the place we call home.
What We’re Doing
Since our founding in 2020, Chatham CAN has been focused on building the foundation for meaningful climate action in our community. Some of the projects we’ve been working on include:
- Hosted a series of webinars on climate risks, natural landscaping, and simple sustainable practices that anyone can adopt.
- Completed a natural resources vulnerability assessment to better understand the risks facing Chatham’s unique environment.
- Collaborated with the Town of Chatham to compile a comprehensive inventory of municipal climate-related actions—what has been completed, what is underway, and what is planned for the future.
- Partnered with the Town on two climate-related community surveys to learn more about our community’s views, concerns and questions about climate risks and actions that might be taken in the future, gathering local data to guide planning and priorities.
- Presented the public premiere of the locally produced film Shifting Tides at the Orpheum Theater.
- Organized a community-wide forum bringing together residents, town officials, and outside scientists to explore the climate risks facing Chatham and connect the dots between local impacts and global climate trends.

Chatham Energy & Climate Action Committee
The Chatham Energy & Climate Action Committee is an official body of the town of Chatham. Its members are appointed by the Select Board. The Committee’s charge is to reduce the community’s contribution to climate change, with a focus on ensuring our energy infrastructure is cleaner, leaner, and more resilient, and to prepare, coordinate and execute mitigation actions and adaptation strategies that anticipate and respond to the effects of climate change.
