Decarbonize Cape Cod

We’re all witnesses to the daily drumbeat of climate disasters:

Freak Floods

Raging Fires

Choking Smoke

Deadly Heat

We Can Make a Difference

We have to stop burning gas, oil and coal, which pour heat-trapping carbon pollution into the air — that’s the main cause of the climate threat. On Cape Cod, most of our carbon pollution is coming from the gas we burn in our cars and the furnaces that heat our houses:

Take a first step or take them all, but be part of the solution!

Step 1

Save Energy

The first and most cost-effective step is to stop wasting energy. Many homes lose 20% of the heating and cooling they pay for due to bad insulation, air leaks and drafty windows. You can save that much or more on your energy bills by fixing a leaky house.

Step 2

Heat Clean

Cold climate air source heat pumps are clean, efficient, all-electric systems that provide year-round heating and cooling, replace both furnace and air conditioners, and produce zero carbon pollution. They can be installed as a central ducted system or as mini-splits in each room, giving you fingertip control of your comfort. And they now benefit from a new lower electric rate during the heating season for homes that use heat pumps. For 2026, Mass SAVE will provide an $8,500 rebate to help finance installation of heat pumps.

Step 3

Go Solar

Rooftop solar power allows you to reduce your costs for electricity and keep them down by powering your home with your own clean electricity.

Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity. In recent years they have become both way more efficient and way cheaper. Over the 25-30 year life of your system you’ll save money as the electricity they produce will cost much less than buying it from Eversource. You’re still connected to the grid when you need it, but you get credit for all the power your own solar panels generate.

If you’re ready to go, you can use these links to contact one or more of our well respected Cape Cod solar installers to start the process to finance and own your own solar energy system, which usually offers the best long term energy savings for homeowners:

Step 4

Drive Green

There are dozens of good electric vehicles available today and more models arriving steadily. They are fun to drive, run on clean energy, offer cheaper fuel and maintenance and need fewer repairs. Many come state rebates worth $3,500 that make them even more affordable. And the growing market for used EV’s often offers great deals.
